It’s coming up on a year since my yoga teacher training. I remember exactly how I was feeling at this time last year: excited but nervous. I didn’t really know what to expect and worried about getting homesick being hundreds of miles from home for nearly three weeks with limited cell reception.
I was lucky enough to have a fun little vacation in Nashville right before my training. On the five hour drive from Nashville to Mountain City I had so many thoughts running through my head, questioning all of my decisions. I had hated school and had zero desire to do any further schooling. I was dreading the anatomy, presentations, practicums and tests. I tried to keep reminding myself why I applied for the training in the first place: my love of the practice and a desire to have a career doing something I enjoyed.
Reflecting back on my time at training makes me so sad I won’t be back there with my beautiful, fellow trainees and amazing teachers, learning and growing. I would’ve never guessed I would be so intrigued by anatomy, but it was actually one of my favorite subjects to learn about. This training was one of the most transformative times in my life.
Not only was it challenging physically with daily strength training and multiple yoga classes, but it was mentally exhausting. We had so much information to take in, but we were all also dealing with our internal struggles. Everyone deals with some form of self doubt and negative self talk. The beautiful part about an intensive training is that you are surrounded by your people. The ones that will be there to help you through anything, that will lift you up when you get down, that will laugh with you because they understand your roller coaster of emotions.
These. Are. Your. People.
Find them. Cherish them. And love them hard.
To all of my Namaslay® YTT Tennessee babes, know that I am extremely grateful for each and every one of you. To the new batch of trainees, know that even when it seems so hard and you can’t possibly do another chaturanga or take in any more anatomy terms, you will make it through, because your yoga family has your back.
Not only am I writing this because I’m feeling nostalgic, I also have an exciting new training adventure in the near future! I’ll be flying to New York for a weekend retreat on the innermost self (If you’ve ever been to the Albany area, share your favorite adventures with me!). I am looking forward to meeting more of my people that share a love of yoga, but I’m also excited to continue to learn and develop myself personally and professionally.
When I complete this training, I’ll do another blog post with my reflection. I am thankful to have this opportunity to travel and the chance to be a student once again. Never let yourself stop learning. Everyone has something to teach you.
