2020 Goals & Intentions: Professional

Last week I shared my personal goals and intentions for the new year. In the first week, I have successfully meditated, wrote in my gratitude journal, fasted for at least 10 hours each day and dedicated more time to reading. I am planning to do my first 24 hour fast, along with my two roommates, next weekend! Although it has only been a week, I feel like these goals are very attainable as long as I stick to my routine and stay organized.

Now for my professional goals… These have been things I have been in the process of doing or have wanted to do pretty much since I graduated from my yoga teacher training a year and a half ago. Like my personal goals, I started out with a longer list. I let that list sit for a few days, came back to it and then asked myself what long-term goals I was working towards and which of these short-term goals helped guide me in that direction. So here they are!

Professional Goals

  • Blog Weekly: I launched my website and blog last June with the idea that I would post four times a week. I did that for a couple of weeks and realized very quickly how much time and work that took. I wanted to be sure the content I put out had substance and was helpful to my readers. I backed off on how frequently I posted shortly after. Then, I backed off more and more, even pushing my blog completely aside for awhile. What started out as an exciting way to connect with people slowly turned into a daunting task I felt obligated to do. Towards the end of the year I started to get back to that excited feeling. That is when I decided I wanted to post consistently again, but I knew that four times a week was unrealistic for me. For 2020, my goal is to publish at least one blog post each week.
  • Finish Yoga Therapy Program: This is one of my biggest goals for the year. I signed up for this program almost a year ago, right when I moved to Des Moines. Silly me to think I would be able to adjust to a new job, environment and life while also making the time to study and learn. This program is a go at your own pace and for a good part of the year, my pace was nothing. Now that I am feeling settled here and have established a better routine and lifestyle, I am ready to recommit myself to this program. To finish this program I need to finish the online modules and attend two more weekend retreats in Albany, NY. I have set a goal to complete one lesson each week and just submitted my registration for the first of the two weekend retreats.
  • YouTube: I am finally going to start filming and releasing YouTube videos. I have so many wonderful supporters back home and in other locations around the country that I want to be able to reach. I knew right when I finished my yoga teacher training this was one avenue I wanted to explore. I am finally ready to dive in! About a month ago, I sat down and brainstormed what I wanted to share. Next steps: purchase equipment and start filming! My hope is to be able to start releasing videos in the next few months.
  • Host a Retreat: My last major professional goal is to host my first yoga retreat. I have already planned out what I want to focus on and put together a general outline of the itinerary. Next steps: secure the location, select dates and share with all of you! This is where my passion for yoga lies and I cannot wait to deeply connect with the beautiful souls that attend.

Professional Intentions

Create & Maintain Connections

Living in Des Moines has already brought me so many valuable connections. I want to continue to grow the relationships I’ve built while also establishing new ones. People are the most valuable resource a business has and I do not take that for granted. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, every person has something to learn and something to teach. I want to keep my mind open and continue to learn from others.

The yoga industry is continuously growing and changing. It has become so much more than just a studio offering classes. I want to take chances and continue to share my passion for yoga with others beyond the typical approaches. Have an idea about how to incorporate yoga in a non-traditional way? I am all ears!
